Die Umsetzung der überarbeiteten eIDAS-Verordnung (elektronische Identifizierung, Authen-tifizierung und Vertrauensdienste) erfordert die Schaffung eines sicheren und benutzerfreundlichen Ökosystems. Als Meilenstein für die digitale Souveränität Europas ist das Kernelement die Europäische Digitale Identitätsbrieftasche (EUDI-Wallet), die als zentrales Instrument der Verordnung dient. In Deutschland wird die Einführung der EUDI-Wallet gemeinsam vom Bundesministerium für Digitales und Modernisierung (BMDS) und SPRIND - der Bundesagentur für Durchbruchsinnovationen - vorangetrieben. Seit Juni 2023 folgt die Initiative einem offenen Architektur- und Konsultationsprozess unter Einbeziehung von Wirtschaft, Zivilgesellschaft und Wissenschaft, wobei Sicherheit, Datenschutz, Benutzerfreundlichkeit und Innovation im Vordergrund stehen.
