In het kader van een circulaire economie moet het ingezameld textiel uit het werkingsgebied van IVIO maximaal (lokaal) hergebruikt worden en dit in navolging van de toepasselijke regelgeving en doelstellingen. Indien hergebruik niet mogelijk is moet het textiel volgens de best beschikbare technologie verwerkt worden tot nieuwe grondstoffen en energie. Bij voorkeur wordt het textiel ingezameld en gesorteerd met het oog op: • In eerste orde: hergebruik door de verkoop van het herbruikbare textiel binnen het werkingsgebied van IVIO • In tweede orde: hergebruik door de verkoop van het herbruikbare textiel binnen de Europese Unie • In derde orde: hergebruik door de verkoop van het herbruikbare textiel buiten de Europese Unie en / of recyclage via de productie van gerecycleerde garens • In vierde orde: recyclage door de verkoop als lompen of andere toepassingen • In vijfde orde: eindverwerking via verbranding met energierecuperatie.
