Die derzeit ca. 65.000 PC-Arbeitsplätze sind mit Hardware unterschiedlicher Firmen und in den meisten Fällen mit Betriebssystemen sowie Bürokommunikations-Software der Firma Microsoft ausgestattet. Daneben werden zentral vorgehaltene Applikationen und Dienste genutzt wie eine zentrale E-Mail-Plattform, Portale auf Basis von SAP Netweaver, ein mit Drupal realisiertes Informationsportal und ein Dokumentenmanagementsystem. Applikationen werden zum Teil auf der Basis von Windows Terminal Servern betrieben. Als Datenbanken werden bis auf wenige Ausnahmen die Produkte der Firmen Oracle und Microsoft verwendet. Die Arbeitsplätze sind in ein einheitliches Directory eingebettet und in ein zentrales Exchange-System integriert. Für die Arbeitsabläufe sind die veröffentlichten Landesstandards sowie die HZD-seitigen Standards in der jeweils gültigen Fassung verbindlich anzuwenden.
